Olympic hero Sushil arrested

Two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar and one of his associates were arrested early on Sunday from Mundka, Delhi, in connection with the murder of former junior wrestling champion Sagar Dhankar. The 38-year-old had been on the run for nearly three weeks and investigations revealed that he had travelled between Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana while trying to evade arrest.
Later in the day, he was sent to police custody for six days by a Delhi court. This after the police questioned him for around 30 minutes inside the court and sought his custody for 12 days for further interrogation.
The case: On the intervening night of May 4-5, Dhankar and four others were brutally assaulted inside Chhatrasal Stadium in northwest Delhi by Sushil and his associates. Dhankar later succumbed to his injuries. Per the Delhi Police, the 23-year-old used to earlier live in a flat in Model Town, in the Capital, owned by Sushil. The two had an ongoing dispute over the rent, which snowballed into a fatal brawl after Dhankar abused Kumar.
Earlier: A Delhi court refused to grant anticipatory bail to Sushil, saying he was prima facie the main conspirator and allegations against him were serious in nature. Non-bailable warrants were issued against him and six others, days after a lookout notice was issued. Having filed an FIR in the case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, the police are also probing links with gangster Sandeep alias Kala Jathedi.
