In Telangana, about 75 lakh devotees have visited the Medaram Sammakka-Saralamma shrine before Saralamma arrived and installed during the ongoing biennial jatara. State Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister E. Dayakar Rao informed yesterday evening at Medaram. He reiterated that the State government will strive to ensure national status for the Medaram Tribal fair as it is the second biggest congregation after the Khumb Mela in the country.
He recalled that the number of devotees is increasing year after year and said the devotees before Saralamma’s arrival was about 50 lakh last year. Meanwhile, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will take part in the fair later this afternoon to pay respect to the tribal goddesses.
