Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur today congratulated Grand Master Koneru Humpy for clinching silver in the World Women Rapid Championships 2023 at Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Hailing the Indian Chess player as a queen on the chessboard, Mr. Thakur lauded her strategic prowess. The Minister said that Koneru Humpy’s journey echoes resilience and brilliance. Mr. Thakur further added, Mrs. Humpy has been a maestro shaping the chess landscape of Bharatiya Sports. Anurag Singh Thakur said that her moves transcend the board and inspire every chess enthusiast and the nation. Koneru Humpy had earlier won the bronze medal at 2012 championships held in Moscow. She was crowned the world champion in 2019.
World Rapid and Blitz championship 2023 is underway at Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The rapid event has concluded yesterday with IM Anastasia Bodnaruk clinched the women’s title in a nervy blitz playoff with GM Koneru Humpy. In open section GM Magnus carlsen secured the world rapid chess crown for a record fifth time while the Indian GM Vidit Gujrathi had to content with the fourth place. The Blitz event will began today this afternoon.
