Nation pays homage to Unifier of Modern India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary today

The nation pays homage to the unifier of Modern India, Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 146th birth anniversary today. The day is also celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. President Ram Nath Kovind paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at his statue at Patel Chowk in the National Capital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tributes to the Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary. In his video message on the occasion, Mr Modi said that with the inspiration of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India has become fully capable of facing all kinds of challenges whether external or internal.

He said, India is not just a geographical unit but it is a nation full of lofty ideals, concepts, civilisation and culture. He said, the land where the 135 crore Indians live, is an integral part of our soul, dreams and aspirations. Mr Modi said, strong foundation of democracy that developed in the society, prospered the sense of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

He said, Sardar Patel always wanted India to be strong, inclusive, sensitive, alert, polite and developed. Prime Minister said, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel always gave importance to nation’s interest. He said, Sardar Patel lives not only in history but also the hearts of all Indians.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, Delhi LG Anil Baijal, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai and Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi also paid floral tributes to Sardar Patel at his statue. Later Minister of State for Home administered the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge to the people on the occasion.

Home Minister Amit Shah attended Rashtriya Ekta Diwas programme at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat. In a tweet, Mr Shah paid tributes to Sardar Patel and extended his greetings to the countrymen on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. He said that Sardar Patel’s dedication, struggle and sacrifice for the motherland inspires every Indian to dedicate themselves for the unity and integrity of the country.

Mr Shah said, the life of Sardar Patel tells the people that how a person with his strong will, strong leadership and indomitable patriotism can transform all the diversity within the country into unity and give the form of a united nation. Along with the integration of the country, Sardar Patel also worked to lay the administrative foundation of independent India.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary and extended his best wishes on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. In a tweet, Mr Thakur said that the contribution of Sardar Patel to keep the unity and integrity of the nation intact and the integration of the country is unforgettable and inspiring for generations.

In Gujarat, the main function will be held at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia. Apart from Rashtriya Ekta Parade, various cultural programmes will be held on this occasion.

AIR correspondent reports, Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary is being celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas since 2014. The national-level function will be held at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the Ekta Parade after paying floral tribute to Sardar Patel.

6 platoons of BSF, CISF, ITBP, CRPF and Gujarat police will participate in Ekta Parade. 23 police officers who won the medals in different international sports events will also join the Ekta Parade.

Cycle and Motorcycle rallies launched from different parts of the country on the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav by the jawans of Indian armed forces will culminate at the Statue of Unity today.
