Death toll in rain-related incidents reaches 80 in Himachal Pradesh

Monsoon rains continued intermittently for the fourth day today in most areas of Himachal Pradesh. However, due to the reduction in rainfall, people have heaved a sigh of relief, and relief and rescue operations have been intensified. So far 80 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state.

AIR correspondents report that in Himachal Pradesh, 80 people have lost their lives so far in incidents related to heavy to very heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides during the current monsoon season. Of these, 27 people have died due to natural calamities during the last three days. Maximum 23 deaths were reported in Shimla district, followed by 22 in Kullu, 10 in Chamba, 6 in Solan, 5 in Hamirpur, three each in Sirmaur and Kinnaur and Bilaspur, two each in Mandi and Una, and one in Kangra. The person has died. While 99 people have been injured and ten people are missing.

At present two thousand 5 hundred 77 power transformers and one thousand four hundred 18 drinking water schemes are closed in the state due to floods and landslides. Electricity and communication services in Kullu district have been completely suspended for the last four days and mobile towers are also not working. With all road links to the Kullu Valley cut off, there has been an acute shortage of essential commodities in the valley. Meanwhile, the road from Mandi to Kullu via Kamand has been restored for light vehicles this afternoon. Kullu Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Garg said that more than 500 tourists were stranded at tourist places like Barshaini, Pulga, Tulga, and Tosh in the district. All of them are safe and waiting for the road to open. One thousand 299 roads including 5 national highways are closed due to heavy rains and landslides. Meanwhile, to evacuate 300 tourists stranded in the Chandratal Lake area of Lahaul-Spiti, a relief and rescue operation has been started today by road and air, and seven elderly people, children, and women were evacuated from Chandratal by Air Force helicopter. On the other hand, five people stranded on an island in Giri River of Sirmour district were rescued today through Air Force helicopter.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Shimla, Kinnaur, and Sirmaur districts of the state today. The department has also issued a red alert for flash floods in these districts.
