CJI N V Ramana expresses concern over pending cases in different courts of the country

Chief Justice of India N. V. Ramana has expressed concern over the pending cases in the different courts of the country and emphasized on strengthening the infrastructure of the courts and filling up the vacant posts of Judges.

Inaugurating the 18th All India Legal Services Authority Meet in Jaipur today, Justice Ramana said that the National Lok Adalats have played an important role in the disposal of litigations in the country. He said that two crore cases have been disposed off.

Justice Ramana said that justice should be available to all and for this purpose, judicial aid is being provided to the needy persons through the Legal Services Authority.

Addressing the programme, Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju said that with the coordination between the judiciary and the governments, avenues can be explored to provide speedy justice to the people. He said that five crore cases are pending in the courts and every possible steps should be taken to reduce the burden on the courts.

Mr. Rijiju said that there is also a need to work seriously to bridge the gap between common man and judicial system. He also advocated the importance of local language in the judiciary.

He said that the local language should be given priority at least in the High Courts and lower courts. He further said that the mother tongue should not be considered less than English or any other language.

The Union Minister said that the government is continuously working to abolish the old and useless laws.

More than one thousand 400 such laws have been abolished. Work is on to abolish 71 more such laws in the Monsoon Session of the Parliament starting on Monday.

He said that the citizens of the country will get Tele-law service free of cost. He stressed the need to make serious efforts to improve the condition of the jails of the country.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was also present in the programme. Judges of Supreme Courts, Chief Justices and Judges of High Courts are participating in this day-long meet.
