BWF World Championships: Indian shuttlers HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen storm into pre-quarterfinals of Men’s Singles

In the BWF World Championships, Indian shuttlers HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen stormed into the Men’s Singles pre-quarterfinals in Tokyo yesterday. They will face each other in the Round of 16.

Unseeded Prannoy stunned second seed Kento Momota 21-17, 21-16 to record a straight sets win while reigning Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen beat Spain’s Luis Penalver 21-17, 21-10.

Indian Men’s doubles pair of M R Arjun and Dhruv Kapila also made their way to pre-quarterfinals beating Danish pair of K Astrup – A Rasmussen 21-17, 21-16. The Indian duo will next face Hee Yong Kai Terry and Loh Kean Hean of Singapore today.

Eighth-seeded men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy thrashed Guatemala’s Solis Jonathan and Anibal Marroquin 21-8 21-10 to storm into Round of 16. Indian pair will be up against Denmark’s Jeppe Bay and Lasse Molhede in the pre-quarterfinals today.

London Olympic bronze medallist shuttler Saina Nehwal, who directly advanced into pre-quarterfinals from round one after her opponent Nazomi Okuhara pulled out of second round due to injury, will also be seen in action today. She will face Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan in the Round of 16.
