Punjab reports 100 new Covid 19 cases; Deputy CM says single case of Omicron registered, directs to ramp up testing and vaccination

n Punjab, 100 new Covid 19 cases were reported yesterday. The maximum 26 positive cases were from Pathankot district followed by 18 cases in Patiala. One Covid19 death was reported from Gurdaspur and 37 Covid19 patients were cured and were discharged. There are a total 449 active Covid19 cases in Punjab now.

Deputy Chief Minister O P Soni has directed to ramp up the testing and vaccination in the state considering the possibility of third wave of Covid-19. Presiding over a meeting of the Health department Mr Soni took stock of the prevailing situation pertaining to the cases. He said that till now the state has seen a single case of Omicron in Nawanshahr, which was asymptomatic and tested negative after 13 days. The Principal Secretary Raj Kamal Chaudhary said that the Punjab Government has approached 12 lakh 5 thousand 69 households under the Ghar Ghar Dastak campaign. Earlier as many as 84 percent of people have been administered the first dose while 44 percent got the second jab.
