Startups to help India transition from Assembly Economy to knowledge-based economy: Piyush Goyal

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that startups will help India transition from an Assembly Economy, particularly in the digital world, to a knowledge-based economy. In his address to 16th India Digital Summit 2022 through video conference, Mr Goyal said, in this digital age, technology has removed boundaries and barriers and got the limitations of a country’s enterprises out of our minds.

He called upon the Startups to help micro-entrepreneurs in rural areas, leverage technology to grow their businesses and encourage farmers, weavers and artisans etc to use digital platforms to sell products. The minister said, it has been six years of the Startup India Mission. He said, in six years, the government has already produced 82 Unicorns. This is the world’s 3rd largest number of Unicorns with over 60 thousand Startups registered at Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and with the growing recognition of India’s skilled people across the world with investors queuing up from around the world to come and participate in this revolution that country are seeing in this Startup ecosystem, he added.

The Minister informed that more than 6 lakh Jobs were created by country’s startups from 2018 to 2021, in fact, in the last year alone, over two Lakh jobs were created. Mr. Goyal said the government is currently focusing on the Ease of living, Ease of Service and Ease of Skilling, re-skilling and up-skilling. He said, the Prime Minister’s interaction with the Startups on 15 of this month will supercharge the courage of our innovators.
