Maharashtra CM directs district authorities to speed up vaccination drive

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that as of 21st September as many as 36 lakh vaccine doses were available with the state as a reason directed various district authorities to speed up vaccination drive where less doses were distributed. The chief minister gave these directions in the state cabinet meeting held yesterday.

The Chief Minister said after inoculation the severity of the disease lessens and even the fatality rate is next to negligible. He said even if the daily positivity rate is declining people should not become complacent and follow the Covid appropriate behaviour.

On the other hand, Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani has informed that as of 21st of this month over one crore 59 lakh Covid-19 tests were carried out in the financial capital. This is since the first novel coronavirus infected patient was found in the jurisdiction of MCGM in March 2020. There are over 260 testing centres in and around Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. Besides, the Covid-19 tests are also done in private labs.

Meanwhile, the civic body has urged people who have returned to the city after traveling to other places for the recently concluded Ganesh festival to get themselves tested for timely detection, necessary medical treatment and to contain the spread of the infectious disease.
