Record heavy rains lashed many parts of the national capital Delhi yesterday making it the wettest monsoon season in 46 years. The city reported extensive waterlogging which affected operations at the IGI Airport and disrupted traffic on several roads. Delhi recorded over 130 mm rainfall. It had recorded more than 100 mm of rainfall on two consecutive days on the 1st and 2nd of this month. Delhi Fire Service personnel rescued 40 passengers from a bus that was trapped at an underpass of the Palam flyover due to waterlogging.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast that moderate rainfall in Delhi will continue today as the low-pressure area over east Rajasthan and another forming over the Bay of Bengal are likely to intensify further. Senior scientist of IMD RK Jenamani said, rainfall is expected today in Delhi-NCR, Punjab and Rajasthan. He said, Delhi will receive a fresh spell of rain from 17th September.
