Maharastra Govt pays homage to martyrs of 26/11 terror attack at Mumbai Police Headquarters’ martyrs’ memorial

Maharastra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil paid tributes to the martyrs of the 26/11 terror attack on its 13th anniversary at the Mumbai Police Headquarters’ martyrs’ memorial today. They also paid homage to the victims of the terror attack. Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray, Maharashtra DGP Sanjay Pande, Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also paid homage to the martyrs and the victims of 26/11 attack.

Ten terrorists who had travelled from Pakistan to Mumbai via sea route carried out series of coordinated shooting and bombing on the night of November 26, 2008. They had targeted prominent places like CSMT station, Hotel Taj, Trident Hotel, and Nariman House in South Mumbai. The terrorist had opened fire at CSMT station and killed many people on the station. Similarly, they attacked Nariman House, Hotel Taj, Leopold Caffe, and Trident Hotel. Mumbai police managed to capture the lone terrorist Ajmal Kasab alive as the 9 others were killed by the NSG guards during the attack. The terrorists also tried to attack Cama Hospital but failed to enter the hospital due to the alertness of hospital staff. The terrorist had laid siege at the Taj Mahal Hotel for almost three days and the high voltage drama came to an end after the NSG guards killed the last terrorist on November 29. More than 160 people lost their lives in the series of attacks and ATS Chief Hemant Karkare and Ashok Kamte, Vijay Salskar and Tukaram Omble of Mumbai Police, and NSG guard Major Sandip Unnikrishnan were martyred in the attack. Their supreme sacrifice will always be remembered by the Mumbaikars and will always inspire the countrymen to protect our country. Ajmal Kasab the lone terrorist who was captured alive was hanged to death in Yerawada Jail on November 12, 2012.
