Maharashtra govt decides to distribute temporary BPL ration cards to orphans up to 28 yrs

With an aim to provide some relief to large number of young orphaned people of the state due to the Corona pandemic, Maharashtra government has decided to distribute temporary BPL ration cards to all orphans up to the age of 28 years under the priority family scheme. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Chhagan Bhujbal said orphans up to 28 years of age in the state will get its benefits along with BPL ration card and orphans above 28 years will get ration card according to their income.

Mr. Bhujbal also informed that after the decision of the state government, either the orphan certificate issued by the Department of Women and Child Development or the death certificate of the mother and father will be accepted as proof of being an orphan to ease the process of acquiring the ration card. Mr. Bhujbal said that this decision will be of great benefit to the orphaned children in the state especially to those who have lost their parents or guardians in the pandemic
