Jammu Airport’s extended 8000 feet runway becomes operational

The extended runway at Jammu Airport has become operational. Indigo Flight 6E-137 was the first flight that traversed through the newly constructed portion and a water cannon salute was given by the Indian Air Force. The existing runway which was 6700 feet long has been extended and the revised stretch of runway is now 8000 feet. The earlier runway was too short for landing due to which, the aircraft coming at Jammu airport used to carry less weight than their capacity, and they also had to apply emergency brakes to stop. The expansion work was completed by Airports Authority of India in coordination with the Indian Air Force and Military Engineering Services (MES). In addition to the runway, 2800 meters of Boundary Wall, Rigid Pavement Perimeter Road and a Turn Pad designed for Airbus 321 was also constructed under the project.
