New York Times opinion piece on press freedom in Kashmir mischievous & fictitious: Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur today criticized the New York Times (NYT) and called its opinion piece on freedom of press in Kashmir as mischievous and fictitious.

Mr Thakur alleged that it was published with a sole motive to spread propaganda about India, its democratic institutions and values.

In a series of tweets, Mr Thakur also accused NYT of dropping pretensions of neutrality while publishing anything about India. Condemning the piece, the Minister added, freedom of Press in India is as sacrosanct as other fundamental rights.

He said, democracy in India and We-the people, are very matured and don’t need to learn grammar of democracy from any media which is agenda driven.

Accusing NYT and few other foreign media of spreading lies against the country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Thakur said that Indians will not allow such mindsets to run their decisive agenda on Indian soil.
