Health Minister Veena George says, 3rd wave of Covid in Kerala is fuelled largely by 94% Omicron variant cases

Kerala Health Minister Veena George has said that the third wave of Covid in the state is fuelled largely by Omicron variant. Sample tests suggest Omicron variant causes 94% of the cases while Delta variant accounts for the remaining. Of the Covid-19 cases arriving in Kerala from neighbouring States and abroad, 80% were infected with Omicron variant.

Briefing media, the Health Minister said, coming three weeks will be crucial for Kerala, and cases can attain a peak in some districts. A State-level Covid-19 war room has been reopened in the capital Thiruvananthapuram.

Meanwhile, Kerala reported 51 thousand 739 Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours. Forty-two thousand 653 persons were recovered. Test Positivity Rate declined to 44.60%.
