187 new rail line projects of 21,037 Km length in different stages of execution, planning and approval

Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw today said the Railways has taken up 187 new rail line projects of 21,037-kilometer length costing more than 4 lakh crore rupees as on 4th of April this year. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha the minister said these projects are in various stages of execution, planning and approval. He said out of this commissioning of 2621 kilometer length has been achieved up to March this year with expenditure of more than 1 lakh crore rupees.
Mr. Vaishnaw said these new line projects will provide connectivity to areas which are not connected with the Railway network including tribal-dominated areas.
He also informed the House that during the period of 2014-21 the Railways commissioned 17,720-kilometer projects in the country at an average rate of 2531 kilometer per year.

The minister said it is 66 percent more than average commissioning of 1520 kilometer per year during the period of 2009-14.
