Tripura invites investment from Bangladesh

Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma has called upon industrialists from Bangladesh to invest in Tripura as it would benefit both countries in equal measure. He said that Tripura is emerging as the trade corridor of entire North-East India and Bangladesh should be a part of it. He informed us that work is under progress on setting up a Special Economic Zone in Sabroom to bring in investment and take advantage of the Chattogram port which is just 70 kilometers away from the border.

The Deputy Chief Minister drew attention to the potential in the tourism sector between India and Bangladesh. He said that a large number of Bangladeshi nationals travel to several tourist places in India through Agartala airport. He said that the Indian government is planning to run international flights from Agartala to South Asian destinations.

Inaugurating the 3-day long India-Bangladesh tourism festival in Agartala on Sunday, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma said that Bangladesh has deep cultural, historic and spiritual ties with Bangladesh. He said that the state government wants to further strengthen the relations between the people of Tripura and Bangladesh.

The festival named ‘Bharat-Bangladesh Paryatan Utsav’ was jointly inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura Jishnu Dev Varma, Tripura Tourism minister Pranajit Singha Roy, and Bangladesh MP Dr. Md Abdus Sahid on Sunday at Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala.

The festival seeks to promote tourism in Tripura and further develop the people-to-people ties between India and Bangladesh. Tripura Tourism Development Corporation hosted a meeting between tour operators of Bangladesh and other states of the North East to work out strategies to boost tourism business in the region, reports UNI. Close to 25 major tourism entrepreneurs from India and Bangladesh took part in the second edition of the India-Bangladesh tourism festival.
