Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha faces adjournments till 12 Noon following opposition protest over LS security breach issue and suspension of MPs

Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha today faced adjournments till 12 Noon following opposition protest over the Lok Sabha security breach issue and suspension of MPs. When the Lok Sabha met this morning, members from Congress, JD(U), Left and others were in the well raising slogans over the issues.

Speaker Om Birla urged the protesting members to go back to their seats but they continued with their protest. Amid din, the Speaker tried to run the Question Hour but in vain. Later he adjourned the House till 12 Noon.

In the Rajya Sabha, when the House met this morning, members from CPI(M) and TMC were in the well demanding Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in the House over the security breach issue. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the House till 11.15 AM. As the House continued to witness protest it was again adjourned till 11.30 AM and later till 11.45 AM and till 12 noon. When the House reassembled at 12 noon, the Chairman expressed anguish over the incident of his mimicry by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee outside Parliament. He also questioned the Congress as party MP Rahul Gandhi filmed the mimicry. Mr. Dhankhar wondered that the Congress leadership is silent over the issue. He asserted that he will not tolerate insult to his post adding that it is his responsibility to protest the dignity of the Chairman post. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi condemned the incident. He said, earlier the Congress leader had insulted President Droupadi Murmu for her tribal background and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being OBC. Mr Joshi alleged that Congress has insulted Tribal, OBC and farmers. Protesting over the alleged insult of Rajya Sabha Chairman, the NDA MPs in Upper House decided to take part in proceeding in standing position to express their respects to the Chairman. Members from Congress, TMC, DMK, Left and others staged a walk out from the Rajya Sabha.

Talking to media outside Parliament, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge accused the government of not allowing opposition to speak in Parliament. He reiterated opposition demand for Union Home Minister’s statement in Parliament over security breach issue. Referring to Mr. Dhankhar’s comment relating the mimicry to the insult of his community, Mr. Kharge said caste should not be dragged into every issue.
