Charanjit Singh Channi to be sworn-in as Punjab CM today; Brahm Mohindra, Sukhjinder Randhawa appointed as Deputy CMs

Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi will be sworn-in as Chief Minister of Punjab today. The oath-taking ceremony will take place at 11 am. Channi was elected the leader of Congress Legislature Party yesterday. He met Punjab governor Banwarilal Purohit in the evening and staked the claim to form a new government in the state. Channi’s election as the CLP leader came a day after Amarinder Singh resigned as the chief minister amid a bitter infighting in the Congress party. Channi had served as the Minister of Technical Education & Industrial Training in the Amarinder Singh government. An MLA from the Chamkaur Sahib Assembly constituency, he also served as the leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly from 2015 to 2016.
Senior Congress leaders – Brahm Mohindra and Sukhjinder Randhawa have been appointed Deputy Chief Ministers. AICC treasurer and senior Congress leader Pawan Kumar Bansal announced the appointment of the two Deputy Chief Ministers in a tweet last night. In the outgoing Congress government, Brahm Mohindra, a confidant of Capt Amarinder Singh, was the senior-most minister.
