The Higher Secondary Certificate (Class 12) examination began in Maharashtra today. A total of 15.13 lakh students are likely to appear for the exam, including 3.51 lakh students from the Mumbai division.

Papers of 12th exams are being held in two shifts – the first shift is starting from 11 am to 2 pm and the second shift from 3 pm to 6 pm.

As per the data shared by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, a total of 15,13,909 candidates have registered for the HSC examination in the state this year. It includes 8,21,450 boys and 6,92,424 girls. With 7,60,046 students, the science stream has the highest number of candidates registered for the HSC exam as always. This is followed by 3,81,982 students in the Arts stream and 3,29,905 candidates in the Commerce stream.

Like last year, students may get an extra ten minutes to write their paper. Earlier, students were given an additional ten minutes before the scheduled time of the beginning of the paper. But after several instances of images of question papers going viral, the Maharashtra State Board had declared discontinuation of the practice, last year. But instead of giving question papers 10 minutes early, an additional 10 minutes were added to the exam time. Students have to be seated 30 minutes before the scheduled time of the paper.
