Space Rock Collides With Jupiter In Amazing Rare Footage Captured By Amateur Astronomer

Calling all space enthusiasts. Recent and rare footage shows the largest planet in the solar system getting a good whacking from an impactor. The event was caught on camera by José Luis Pereira, an amateur astronomer from Brazil.

He later posted the footage on his YouTube channel where the video raked in 296,822 views and counting. The video has also collected 1.7k likes so far.Speaking to Space.com Pereira said, “I am an assiduous planetary observer.”

“When the planets Jupiter, Saturn and Mars are in opposition, I try to make images in every possible night of clear skies. Especially [of] the planet Jupiter, my favourite,” he added.

According to the report, the event was captured from São Caetano do Sul, in São Paulo, Brazil. Luckily for him, he was ready with his equipment aimed at the planet, as on other nights, given that he tries to track everything about the planet for the DeTeCt program.”To my surprise, in the first video I noticed a different glow on the planet, but I didn’t pay much attention to it as I thought it might be something related to the parameters adopted, and I continued watching normally,” he explained.

“So as not to stop the captures in progress for fear that weather conditions would worsen, I didn’t check the first video.”
