India beat Nepal 1-0 in SAFF Championship in Maldives

Sunil Chhetri once again proved saviour as he rescued the Indian team helping it record a 1-0 win over Nepal. In the last two games, India were held for a draw by Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Nepal had pushed themselves to the limit to hold India to a draw in the SAFF opener game on October 4.

Yesterday’s win over Nepal has kept India alive in the tournament and make for an interesting final day. While India displayed more urgency in the game, it got rewarded towards the end of the game when Chhetri found the back of the net in the 82nd minute to seal the game in favour.

India are now placed third with five points from three matches. Nepal are second with six points while Maldives lead the table with six points and a better goal ratio. On the final day of the round-robin stage to be played on October 13, India will take on Maldives while Nepal and Bangladesh will fight it out among each other.
