Russian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers to hold face-to-face talks in Turkey today

Russian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers will hold face-to-face talks in Turkey’s resort town of Antalya today. It is the first high-level meeting between Kyiv and Moscow since Russia began a military operation in Ukraine two weeks ago. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba after the third round of negotiations between their countries ended on Tuesday, without any solution.

The talks will be held in a trilateral format with Turkey opting to mediate between both nations. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed hope that the talks can avert tragedy and even help agree on a ceasefire. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart spoke over the phone on 6th of March. During their talks, Mr Erdogan proposed to his counterpart to open a path of peace together and launch talks for a peaceful resolution of the problems.
