Indonesia issues tsunami warning after powerful quake

Magnitude 7.3 undersea quake could cause hazardous tsunami waves for coasts within 1,000 km of epicentre, says US-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. Indonesia has issued a tsunami warning after an earthquake of magnitude 7.5 struck its region of East Nusa Tenggara.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre estimated the magnitude at 7.7, placing Tuesday’s quake at a depth of 5 km.

The USGS said the quake struck at a depth of 76 kilometres in the Flores Sea at 0320 GMT.
