In Uttar Pradesh, 15 districts are affected by floods. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took an aerial survey of some of the severely affected districts, including Bahraich, Banda and Balrampur yesterday. AIR correspondent reports that most of the rivers, originating from Nepal and flowing through the eastern parts of the state, are inundated due to excessive rains in the region in the last few weeks. Discharge of excess water from dams in Nepal has also aggravated the situation. Major rivers, including Saryu, Rapti, Gandak and Rohin are flowing above the danger mark. Siddharthnagar, Shravasti, Balrampur, Bahraich, Gonda, Basti, Kushinagar and Gorakhpur are some of the most affected districts in the region.
In Gorakhpur, all major rivers are flowing above the danger mark. Around 2 hundred 50 villages are affected by the floods. River Rapti, which flows close to the city, is posing danger as the flood water has inundated some of the residential areas in the city. Traffic on the Gorakhpur-Varanasi highway was diverted yesterday due to flood water inundating the road. However, the Central Water Commission in its latest report has predicted that the water level of the Rapti river will deplete by 15 centimetres by the evening today. The Commission has also sounded severe flood alert in the area.
