West Bengal Panchayat Polls: TMC dominates polls, captures 2,117-gram panchayats

The final result of the gram panchayat, the lowest level of the three-tier panchayat, indicated that the ruling Trinamool Congress was far ahead of the Opposition.

According to the information received from the State Election Commission sources, elections were held in 3317-gram panchayats of 22 districts, out of which the information available till 7 pm says that 2,117-gram panchayats have been captured by Trinamool. BJP got 174 Gram Panchayats. Congress got 115 Gram Panchayats. The Left won 78 Gram Panchayats.

ISF got 8 Gram Panchayats. 90 Gram Panchayats have been taken over by others. A large part of these 90 are again spread over 8 blocks of two hill districts. Out of total 63 thousand 229 panchayat seats, Trinamool still won 19,059 seats.

BJP won 2,716 seats. 1,024 seats went to the Left. Congress won 542 seats. Out of the 361 panchayat samiti, the Trinamool Congress has won/is ahead in 67 as per the latest reports. BJP has captured 9 panchayat societies. The Left is ahead in both. The State Election Commission believes that the final result of the Panchayat will be available by Thursday.
