President and Vice President have greeted all the citizens of the country on the occasion of New Year. In his message, President Ram Nath Kovind hoped that the new year will bring a lot of happiness and good health as well as success and prosperity in everyone’s life. He also hoped that the new dawn of the New Year will reinvigorate the spirit of peace, prosperity and fraternity in our lives.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his greeting on New Year. In a tweet, Mr. Modi wished that this year may bring abundance of joy and good health in everyone’s lives. He also wished the countrymen to keep scaling new heights of progress and prosperity and work even harder to fulfill the dreams of our great freedom fighters.
Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said the New Year is a time for new beginnings. He said, it is a time to set new goals in life and make new resolutions. Mr Naidu said, on this New Year, let us resolve to be kinder, more compassionate and considerate human beings.
India celebrated New Year amid concern over Covid. Indian tourists celebrated New Year’s with beach party in Goa. Bengaluru in Karnataka witnessed no New Year celebrations on MG Road and Brigade Road over Omicron threat. Kerala also welcomed the New Year in a quiet and subdued manner.
Night curfew was in force across the state, compelling people to welcome the New Year from the confines of their home. Fort Kochi, Kovalam and Kozhikode beaches, where celebrations to welcome the New Year used to go well past early morning, wore a deserted look.
Restrictions were clamped across India on New Year celebrations. While festivities have been completely banned in states like Delhi and Karnataka, others have brought in strict restrictions, such as curfews, to control the spread of the virus.
In Haryana, patrolling team got malls, clubs and other places celebrating New Year evacuated, in adherence to night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am.
