The catchment areas of Idukki and Mullaperiyar dams in Kerala received heavy rain last evening.
Besides five spillway shutters that were already open at the Mullaperiyar dam, two more shutters were opened last night. Nearly 4000 cusecs of water is being released from the reservoir. The water level in the dam is at 141.60 ft.
The Idukki District Collector has warned people living along the banks of river Periyar to remain vigilant as the water level in the river could rise up to 75 cm.
Water level in the Idukki reservoir is at 2400.14 ft as against its full reservoir level of 2403 ft.
Meanwhile, two shutters of Kallar dam in the district were also opened, releasing 10 cusecs of water from the reservoir. People living along the banks of Kallar and Chinnar rivers were alerted in view of the water release.
