The Narendra Modi-led government has accorded top priority to make provision of tap water connection in every rural household across the country. With a focus to expedite the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Maharashtra, the Government of India has released over one thousand 666 crore rupees to the State.
Ministry of Jal Shakti in a statement said that Central fund worth over seven thousand crore rupees has been allocated to Maharashtra for the current financial year for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission, which is nearly four times than the allocation made in 2020-21.
The Ministry said that there are 142.36 lakh rural households in the State, out of which more than 96 lakh households have tap water connections. In 2021-22, the State has planned to provide tap water connections to over 27 lakh households.
