HAIKOU /China/, Hainan International Tourism Island Carnival will begin on December 10 in the southern Chinese province of Hainan, according to the regional administration.
The carnival’s opening ceremony will take place in the “Park of the Century” in Haikou (the administrative center of Hainan), Deputy Head of the Hainan Department of Tourism, Culture, Broadcasting and Sports Wang Liming said at a press conference. The key features of the 22nd carnival’s program are tourism and gastronomy fairs. “Tourism Island” will run until Dec. 31, with the closing ceremony set to be held at the Sanya International Duty Free Center.
“We invite everyone to actively participate in our carnival,” Wang Liming said. “I hope that Hainan can become a homeland for you.” He specified that this time the plan is to focus on “red tourism”, visiting monuments of revolutionary glory and holding events related to the history of the Communist Party of China. The government will also support numerous trade promotions, will seek to popularize tourist sites in the countryside and promote seaside vacations and trips to modern health centers. The authorities will stimulate exhibition activities and scientific and technical entertainment projects.
According to the carnival program, this year’s festivities will be held in five other places apart from Haikou: the resort city of Sanya, the industrial city of Danzhou (northwest), Qionghai, Wanning and Wenchang in the east of the island. Residents and tourists will be able to experience a beach holiday atmosphere and many cultural projects.
Tourist Carnivals in Hainan are held annually in December and are organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the PRC in cooperation with the provincial government. The purpose of these comprehensive events is to stimulate consumption and strengthen the international status of the island as one of the most attractive holiday destinations.
