In Men’s Chess, Dommaraju Gukesh has secured his spot at the prestigious Candidates tournament, which will take place in Toronto from April 2 to 25, 2024. Gukesh became the third Indian to make the Candidates tournament, joining R Praggnanandhaa and Vidit Gujrathi. This is the first time in history that three Indians are playing the Candidates. The winner gets the chance to take on China’s Ding Liren in the next World Chess Championship.
In Women’s Candidates, Koneru Humpy and Rameshbabu Vaishali will represent the country. The winner of the tournament will face Ju Wenjun of China for the titles.
The Eight-player event will be conducted in Round Robin format.
