Union Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Vini Mahajan reviewed the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) with Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta yesterday.
Ms Mahajan appreciated the progress made by the Union Territory in providing tap water supply to rural homes during the review meeting on implementation of the two key missions in Jammu and Kashmir.
Secretary DDWS said, the Union Territory is well on track to achieve the set targets and the Centre is providing full assistance to achieve the goals. She said, Jal Jeevan Mission is a decentralized, demand-driven, community-managed water supply scheme which aims to improve the lives of rural people by providing clean tap water supply to every home and appreciated the work carried out by the Union Territory in this regard.
The Union Secretary emphasised on the need for 100 percent coverage of all households in a time-bound manner and setting up of Village water sanitation committees. She further said that the progress should be reviewed on a regular basis and monitored thoroughly for its effective implementation.
