The two non-locals were shifted to a hospital and were reported in stable condition. This came amid a spate of terrorist attacks in the valley.
In an alarming development, two non-locals were shot at and injured in the Magam area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday, according to police sources. Both of them were shifted to a hospital in Srinagar and are now in stable condition.
They were identified as Mohammad Usman and Sufiyan, both hailing from Uttar Pradesh. They were working on the construction of a water tank in the Manzhama area of Magam during the shooting. Usman suffered injuries in his right wrist while Sufiyan was hurt in his right leg.
This came after three terrorists fired at an army ambulance that was part of a convoy moving near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor district. All of them were gunned down by security forces in anti-terror operations on Tuesday.
A four-year-old valiant Army dog, Phantom, was the only casualty in the operation, which saw the deployment of the National Security Guard (NSG) and Special Operations Group (SOG). As the security forces were closing in on the trapped terrorists, Phantom drew enemy fire, sustaining fatal injuries, officials said.
Police are investigating the identity of the terrorists, but agencies suspect the involvement of Jaish-e- Mohammed. Jaish, in recent times, has carried out attacks on army convoys in Jammu division. “All three are foreign terrorists from Pakistan. One looks like a Jaish commander,” an official said.
The Akhnoor incident comes after a series of terrorist attacks unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir in the past few months, prompting the central government to launch several combing operations in the valley.
Four persons including two army jawans and two local porters were killed in a terror attack in the Gulmarg area of Jammu and Kashmir last week. In a separate incident, seven including non-locals were killed when terrorists struck a tunnel construction site on Srinagar-Leh national highway in the Ganderbal district.
