In Kerala, nine persons were killed when a tourist bus carrying school children rammed behind a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation Bus near Vadakkencherry in Palakkad district around midnight. The bus turned turtle following the accident.
Initial reports said some students travelling on the bus were among those killed in the mishap. There were 37 students, five teachers, and two bus employees on the tourist bus. 38 persons injured in the mishap have been admitted to the Thrissur Medical College Hospital. Of this, the condition of four persons is said to be serious. Some other persons injured in the mishap have been admitted to a hospital in Alathur.
The tourist bus, hired by Baselious Vidyaniketan Senior Secondary School from Vettickal at Mulanthuruthy in Ernakulam district, was on its way to Udhagamandalam (Ooty) in Tamil Nadu. The KSRTC bus was going to Coimbatore from Kottarakkara.
