PM speaks to Uttarakhand CM, assures all possible help to save Joshimath from land subsidence

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami yesterday, January 8 over the situation in Joshimath town.

Mr. Dhami briefed PM Modi about the situation in Joshimath. CM also informed the Prime Minister about plans for rehabilitation and arrangements being made in light of several houses developing cracks.

Mr. Modi assured all possible financial and technical support to the state for providing help to the people of Joshimath. In a tweet, Mr. Dhami said Prime Minister is personally monitoring the situation and the safety and security works being carried out by the government in the region.

Principal Secretary to the PM, PK Mishra, held a high-level meeting to assess the land subsidence situation at Joshimath. Soon after the meeting, the chief secretary, along with DGP Ashok Kumar reached Joshimath and interacted with state and police officials.

The chief secretary said a team of expert scientists from across the country are finding out the cause of land subsidence and will do “whatever treatment is necessary”. He added that the safety of the citizens is of utmost importance and the local administration is continuously working for it.

He also appealed to locals to “not take any risk under any circumstances” and visited the areas included in danger zones like Manohar Bagh, Singhdhar, and Marwadi.
