Russian runner Yaremchuk wins gold of 2020 Paralympics in men’s 1,500m running

TOKYO, August 28. Russian runner Alexander Yaremchuk won the gold of the 2020 Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo on Saturday in the men’s 1,500-meter running T46 classification competition.

The Russian athlete cleared the distance in 3 minutes 52.08 seconds to win the gold of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

The silver in the men’s 1,500-meter running went to Bulgaria’s Hristiyan Stoyanov (3 minutes 52.63 seconds) and the bronze was coined by David Emong of Uganda (3 minutes 53.51 seconds).

Yaremchuk, 26, is a two-time European champion and the world championships’ bronze-medal winner.The 2020 Summer Paralympic Games in Japan’s Tokyo are being held between August 24 and September 5, 2021. In March 2020, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced their decision to postpone the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Japan for one year due to the continuous COVID-19 spread.

As of today, the Russian national team of athletes in Tokyo – participating as Team RPC (the Russian Paralympic Committee) due to international sanctions against Russian sports – boasts 10 gold, seven silver and 12 bronze medals. Team RPC is currently 3rd in the overall medal count following China (20-12-18) and Great Britain (12-11-12).
