Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Croatian partner Mate Pavic stormed into the mixed doubles semifinal at Wimbledon.
The sixth-seeded pair defeated the fourth-seeded Canadian-Australian duo of Gabriela Dabrowski and John Peers 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in the quarterfinals. This is Sania’s best-mixed doubles performance at the All England Club.
In the last four fixtures, the Indo-Croatian pair will face either seventh seeds Robert Farah of Columbia and Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia or second seeds Neal Skupski of Great Britain and Desirae Krawcyzk of the US.
In men’s singles, 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal reached the quarter-finals, dominating over 21st seed Bottic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (6). The Spaniard will face 11th seed Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals.
Earlier, Novak Djokovic entered the quarter-finals for the 13th time in his career by beating Tim van Rijthoven. With this victory, Djokovic has set up a mouth-watering quarter-final clash with Jannik Sinner of Italy. Belgian David Goffin won against American Frances Tiafoe to reach the quarter-finals of the Men’s Singles.
In Women’s Singles, former champion Simona Halep beat fourth-seeded Paula Badosa 6-1, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals for the fifth time today. Earlier, Kazakh 17th seed Elena Rybakina beat Croatia’s Petra Martic 7-5 6-3 to reach her first Wimbledon quarter-final. No. 3 seed Ons Jabeur, Ajla Tomljanovic, Marie Bouzková, Jule Niemeier, and Tatjana Maria have already entered the quarter-finals.
